Whether you're an occasional runner, bike rider, fitness buff or serious athlete, the Run, Row, Rock & Roll Adventure Race in Fairbury is one of 10 NSC Races you won't want to miss! Fairbury's race is one of 10 held throughout the year. Teams of 3 will test their skills and endurance in a variety of disciplines. People can participate in teams of three; male, female or co ed.
Participants are expected to run, canoe, bike, climb and navigate their way through the 32 mile recreation course and the 40 mile competitive course with the help of volunteers and several hundred spectators cheering them on.
Besides making their way through the course, contestants also have to perform "activities" at several "checkpoints" along the way including target shooting, a bicycle obstacle course, a teamwork drill, and a test of knowledge.
"This event has really drawn the Fairbury community together," said Craig Bontrager, Race Director and Director of the Burkley Wellness Center. "It seems like people come out of the woodwork to help and participate".
There were more than 130 participants in the event in 2013 and contestants came from as far away as Iowa, Missouri, South Dakota, Colorado; Minnesota, Illinois, Kansas and throughout Nebraska.
The Fairbury Adventure Race is sponsored by theBurkley Wellness Center and Angry Cow Adventures.
