Lord's Acre Festival, Fairbury, Nebraska

The first Saturday of October marks the annual Lord's Acre Day Celebration in Endicott, 6 miles SE of Fairbury on Hwy 8. This year's celebration slated for Saturday, October 6th, 2012, marks the 61st year. The community celebration raises money to support the United Methodist Church in Endicott. "This annual event is the reason that Endicott can keep their church locally and not have to go elsewhere to worship each Sunday. This money pays the monthy bills plus helps with the apportionments that the church pays yearly," according to Betty Novotny, one of the event coordinators.

History of the Event: Sixty-One years ago, members of the church would donate the proceeds from an acre of ground to the Church, hence the name "Lord's Acre". Of course when everyone got together, they needed to eat so a dinner was planned. Then games were played for something to do. Sixty-One years later, it has evolved into a day filled with fun, food and a parade.

This year's celebration starts early at 6 am with a breakfast at the town hall. There will be craft booths, bake sale, lunch stand, noon diner, auction, drawings for prizes. Highlights include Wanda & Jerry Talbot's Sweet Tooth Booth and Robert Bakewell's family recipe homemade ice cream.

There will be games for the children at the Sweet Tooth Booth on Main Street. There is also a bicycle rodeo for kids of all ages. Just bring your trick or bike and come join the fun.

Don't forget the homemade horseradish! Folks travel to Endicott from all over the state to purchase this local delicacy - but you gotta come early before it sells out!

There are two new items added to this year’s events, the Horse-radish Shuffle and Fun Horse Show.
