April 2011 - Fairbury native, Megan (Katz) Smallcomb, is a self-proclaimed history buff and shares her love for history as a Civil War reenactor.
With the observance of the150th anniversary of the Civil War comes the opportunity for reenactors like Smallcomb to educate others about a time period in our nation’s history that bears remembrance. “Stories, she said, that still hold important lessons decades later.”
During the Civil War, women held important roles as nurses, seamstresses and aids to the soldiers but according to Smallcomb, the women she represents did much more than that.
"My specific role is portraying one of the women who did not take one of those traditional roles and actually went against the grain socially and joined an army that she was forbidden to join," Smallcomb said. |
