May 2011 - Music is the theme for May at the Fairbury City Museum. The Fairbury City Museum houses several artifacts that are related to music and its importance in the development of the Fairbury community. Musical items such as vintage victrolas, radios, musical instruments, band uniforms, play programs, band photographs and memorabilia can be found throughout the main building of the museum.
Visitors, local officials and guests attended a special event on Sunday, May 1st, to kick off the museum’s May feature, “music”. A contest was held where visitors could guess the number of music-related items housed in the various rooms in the main building. William Marshall of Lincoln, submitted the winning guess. Marshall was the winner of a steak dinner for two, courtesy of Rowdy’s Steakhouse in downtown Fairbury.
The Fairbury Community Band performed a band concert in the red barn on the museum grounds, under the direction of Ted Luebbe. Immediately following the band concert, a reception was held and refreshments were served. The reception was sponsored by TLC Creations and Equipment Rentals in downtown Fairbury. The Fairbury City Museum is open weekends, Saturdays and Sundays, from 1 – 4 P.M. and is located at 1128 Elm Street, just two blocks south of 14th Street (Highway 136). |
