Heritage Highway 136 Announces Photography Contest Winners

March 2011 - The Heritage Highway - Byway 136 Organization would like to announce the winners of the 2010-2011 Heritage Highway Photo Contest. Participants in the contest photographed many attractions and events that can be experienced when one travels the historic Heritage Highway, one of Nebraska’s nine scenic byways. A vast array of photographs were submitted, and have been on display at the Red Cloud Opera House since January.

The contest winners were selected by several well known photographers: Jorn Olsen, Jeff Haller, and Valerie Knobel. First place was awarded to the photo entitled, “Nuckolls County 68974,” by Barbara Wiselogel of Red Cloud; second place went to “Pot of Gold,” by Joan Classen of Hastings; and third place was awarded to “Orange Sulfur,” by Bernadette Korslund of Beatrice.

“In addition to the opinion of our wonderful judges, we wanted the public’s input, so we opened the contest to voting for a Viewers’ Choice Award,” said Ashley Olson, President of Heritage Byway 136. The Viewers’ ChoiceAward was given to Barbara Zarybnicky of Odell for her photo entitled, “A Snowy Day.”

Olson went on to say, “The Viewers’ Choice was well accepted and as many voted online as those that stopped by the Red Cloud Opera House to cast their vote.”

An open house was held at the Red Cloud Opera House on Sunday, March 13 to honor those selected. The exhibit will be traveling throughout the year to various area businesses or attractions along the Heritage Byway.
